Description of Textbook
All Microsoft applications used in this textbook are based on the Office 365 suite. There are ten (10) sections covered in this textbook. They are designed to be covered in a two-semester timeframe.
Section 1: Microcomputer and Electronic Keyboarding Applications. When students can properly key text by memory and by touch, they may be able to complete their assignments quickly, correctly, and with less effort involved. This is the focus or goal in this section.
Section 2-Part A: Microsoft® Word: Word Processing Program. Students will learn how to create letters, reports, memos, sort text, merge files, produce mailing labels, envelopes, and more. Section 2-Part B: Corel® WordPerfect: Word Processing Program. The WordPerfect component is an optional application that can be introduced to the students. It is another word processing software that is currently being used in some programs, especially in the legal field.
Section 3: Microsoft® Excel. The Microsoft Excel program is a versatile spreadsheet application that allows users the ability to perform electronic accounting applications, with charts, and more.
Section 4: Part A--Microsoft® PowerPoint. Microsoft PowerPoint is ideal for making the most unique presentation slides for personal and professional use. Animation and special effects can be added to make a slide appealing, entertaining, and very enjoyable to watch. Section 4: Part B—Prezi®. This is a presentation program that is typical of the PowerPoint program. However, it uses a canvas-style approach rather than slides, where animation, audio, and special effects can be added in a wider, zoom-in-out, screen area.
Section 5: Microsoft® Publisher. This is a versatile desktop publishing software application with specialized features for page layout, color, and design. This program is ideal for creating newsletters, greeting cards, booklets, programs, brochures, and lots more.
Section 6: Introduction to Coding®. Computer Coding is a powerful tool that allows users to automate games, toys, vehicle systems, computer chips, web browsers, phones, tablets, and many more electronic devices. Students will learn how to create a web site heading from start to finish.
Section 7: Google® Doc (Google Forms). The focus of this section is to teach students how to create survey forms with special themes for internal and external purposes.
Section 8: iCloud®. The focus of this section is to teach individuals how to store photos and videos using iCloud’s virtual storage service.
Section 9: A Touch of Cursive Writing. A small segment of cursive writing is included in this textbook to allow students an opportunity to recognize the characters and to learn how to write in the cursive style. It is strictly optional and is provided only if individuals did not learn cursive writing in their early childhood education curriculum.
Section 10: Zoom®. The focus of this section is to learn how to master this online virtual teaching tool as a successful alternative to face-to-face interaction.
